About Me
About Reza Alizad Sane
My name is Reza Alizad Sane, born in 1975 in the city of Tabriz, Iran.
Since childhood, I have had a deep interest in pipes. At the age of ten, I made a pipe bowl by hollowing out an acorn and used the tube of a Bic pen as the shank. Although I was still far too young to smoke, from that time until I turned eighteen—when I bought my first pipe and smoked it—the idea of making real pipes was always in my mind.
The Professional Path Begins
In 2019, after many years of smoking and becoming familiar with the world of pipes, I made my first serious pipe. From that moment, my professional path began.
Today, I am a full-time pipemaker, and I devote all my energy and focus to designing and crafting handmade pipes with my own personal identity.
Materials and Components
The integrity of my work is built upon high-quality, carefully sourced materials:
- Briar: The briar I use comes from Italy and Algeria.
- Morta: The morta I work with comes from Belarus and Ukraine.
For Stems and Accents:
- I make my stems from ebonite or acrylic.
- Sometimes I use rings and decorative accents made from African hardwoods, cut pieces of fruitwoods and ornamental woods, ebonite, bone, or horn.
Craftsmanship and Philosophy
Among the shapes, I have a special love for the volcano, but smooth, rusticated, and sandblasted pipes are also a constant part of my work.
Sandblasting, for me, is a way to reveal the grain, the hidden lines, and the “soul” within the wood.
My main inspiration is nature, unfinished textures, and the honest feel of raw material. I believe that every pipe is a conversation between me and the wood—a conversation that should result in something natural, alive, and sincere.
Every pipe made under the name Rizza carries a part of my vision of beauty, a part of my hands, and a part of the time of my life.
